WHAT IS THE MAIN STREET PROGRAM?
The National Trust for Historic Preservation created the Main Street program in the early 1980s to revitalize historic commercial districts threatened by urban sprawl.

Main Street's four-step approach is centered around Committees made up of community volunteers with a focus on Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion, and Organization. This approach has proven effective in preserving the unique character of these districts while fostering economic growth and community pride.
Through this approach many historic areas have been successfully rejuvenated, turning them into vibrant, thriving centers of activity and community once again.
